The Institute of Pathology and Genetics (IPG asbl), is specialised in medical diagnosis in pathology, genetics, molecular biology and molecular biology. IPG employs more than 300 workers on its site of Gosselies.

Senior Scientific Expert – BMC Constitutional

 

The Senior Scientific Expert will fully integrate the Molecular and Cellular Biology Department and will report to the laboratory supervisor of the Molecular Biology Constitutional diseases Unit. The main part of the job consists in establishing molecular diagnostics.

Main tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Coordination of the general lab activity
  • Participation in new assays development or in improvement of existing techniques
  • Validation of analytical methods
  • Verification of technical performance and raw data’s quality
  • Interpretation of raw molecular genetics results (mainly NGS)
  • Literature review
  • Redaction of medical reports
  • Communication and coordination with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ensuring compliance to quality standards.
  • Generation of indicators and reports for management (follow-up of metrics)

 

Requirements/Qualification:

Hard Skills/Experience

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology or related discipline (medical area would be preferred)
  • Ideally, holder of a national recognition as “medical genetic laboratory supervisor” issued by the BeSHG (a Master degree is then accepted)
  • Significant scientific expertise within the NGS/Transcriptomics & Genomics fields
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with various molecular biology analytical methods (such as nucleic acid isolation, qPCR, digital PCR, Sanger sequencing, Next-Generation Sequencing, …)
  • Good theoretical knowledge in human genetics and molecular diagnostic
  • Computer skills including use of software dedicated to raw molecular data’s analysis
  • Capacity of variant interpretation and classification would be a great asset
  • Proficiency in developing and optimizing molecular bioassays
  • At least passive and written knowledge of English
  • Excellent written French
  • A track record of peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations
